Steve,
This test is a really good idea and I'm very keen to learn the
result.
I'm also keen to learn the results, but I'm helplessly recording
Radio 3 off Freeview almost daily but nobody seems to be bothered to
record off satellite - hopefully we'll have the result by Christmas.
If you're in such a hurry, you could buy a Dreambox yourself -- you
might even enjoy it.
I can't install a satellite dish, which is sort of a bit of a snag.
I've had a busy few days and haven't had the
time. But I do now have recordings of the first half of Saturday's
(the Schnittke and the Mozart's Turkish violin concerto) in three
formats -- DVB-s, DVB-t
Okay, thanks. Could you upload them to yousendit.com so I can download them,
please?
Forget the surround sound and HD video for the timebeing, although if the HD
video file isn't too big I wouldn't mind downloading it to see if I can play
it back.
and also the AC-3 stereo version broadcast
with BBC-HD. I even have the HD video file, too, though I'm not at all
sure I have the means to play it.
Quicktime should be able to playback H.264 video, so you could try that.
The Schnittke piece has a wider
range of tone colour and dynamics and may therefore be more suitable
for the purpose, if it didn't do your head in the first time round.
But which do the experts want? And how much of it?
It's up to you. My broadband is about 3.3 Mbps, so I'm happy to download any
file size you've got, assuming it's not more than about 1 hour per
recording.
If you know where to cut the files up for the different pieces though, and
then upload them in a Zip file, that would save me a job.
