Well, i've fiddled around and put an aerial in the loft. Horizontal polarization, pointing the right way, doesn't work as well as vertical polarization. I suspect my best signal is bouncing off something else. I suppose that means I should expect a little sibilance and sure enough I do, but it's tolerable. Still get the occasional problem from cars and my own washing machine though.

I thought best practice was the roof not the loft, horizontal
polarisation and directional aerial if there are local problems.

Quite so, but a clumsy bloke like me has no business going up there.
The polarization issue surprised me too, but as I wrote I suspect that nt much of the DIRECT signal is reaching me. Either that or I've been looking for the wrong transmitter! (Sutton Coldfield I presume, for Coventry)
