192kbps is the current bitrate generaly used

Experience doesn't show this fact !
If we know that NRJ will use 256 kbps for this radio certainly,
it's the case for small radio.
And if mobile TV comes on DAB mux, space will become rare
:(

It's not a reference !! did you listen to they audio at 256kbps ?

Le Mouv use 256kbps on DAB and the sound is more bad than FIP at
192kbps.

I've listened to plenty of Radio 3 on DAB using 192 kbps, as well as
lots of TV channels using 192 kbps, and 192 kbps DOES NOT provide
FM-quality.

Are you suggesting that DAB should use lower than FM-quality?
Are you suggesting that DAB should be used and you can't fit all the
existing analogue radio stations on DAB?
Are you suggesting that DMB should not be used for mobile TV?

I think you are contradicting yourself.

I just pick this sentence on your website :
http://www.digitalradiotech.co.uk/mpeg_coding.htm

-----------------------------------------
Perceptual coding has made great advances in recent years. In the
following table, the MPEG standards are listed in chronological order
showing the bit rate required to achieve "near CD-quality":

Codec Bit Rate Compression Ratio
Layer 1 (MP1) 384 kbps 3.7
Layer 2 (MP2) 192 kbps 7.3
Layer 3 (MP3) 128 kbps 11.0
AAC* 96 kbps 14.7

*Advanced Audio Coding

I wrote that in March 2002, which was before I knew a lot of what I know
now. Anyway, thanks for pointing out that error.

I've had to do a huge amount of radio listening in the last few weeks,
because I've had to do reviews of 6 DAB/FM tuners. One of the radio stations
I listened to a lot on DAB was Radio 3, which is the only radio station in
the UK that uses 192 kbps. It sounds crap, and Radio 3 is the best-sounding
radio station in the UK.

The audio quality on FM *wipes the floor* with DAB.

So, Croiset:

Are you suggesting that the audio quality on DAB should be far worse than on
FM?
Do you agree that DMB should not be used for mobile TV anywhere in Europe?
Are you suggesting that DAB should not carry all the existing analogue radio
stations (this is IMPOSSIBLE when using DAB with the MP2 codec)?

Overall, are you proposing that the hundreds of millions of European radio
listeners should be provided with low audio quality just because the company
that you work for will profit more and that your own shares will make you
personally more money if DAB with the MP2 audio codec is used?

Do you care about anybody other than your own bank balance?

Do you not think it is despicable to put your own money ahead of hundreds of
millions of people?

And why is a non-engineer like YOU working for a DAB transmission company
when you don't have the first idea about digital communication
systems?????????????????????? You have NO ENGINEERING QUALIFICATIONS, so
what on earth are you doing working for a (supposedly) engineering company?

How much do you personally stand to gain financially if DAB with the MP2
codec becomes accepted rather than DAB with AAC/AAC+?
