You could have up to 8meg from Virgin with a little effort! Try
tweaking your MTU and RWIN.

I signed up for "up to 8 meg" a couple of weeks ago, but they said it'd take
some time for the change to go through, but I've just rung them now cos it'd
been blatantly over the 7 days I remember them telling me, and the idiots
had changed the package I'm on from the £14.99 package with 512k speed and
lower number of GB to the £17.99 "up to 8 meg" package, but the buffooners
hadn't requested the connection speed to be increased.

I really don't know what it is about the combination of call-centre staff
and computer systems, but anything that can go wrong usually does go wrong
when you contact them. If it was complicated you might have some sympathy,
but it's as simple as simple can be -- even DAB supporters can understand
this kind of stuff (although maybe not Richard L, who insanely thinks that
you have to pay dosh each time you "use" iTunes, even though iTunes is a
free download from the Apple website and is used by many millions of
people), so it really is ultra-simple.

Anyway, they have now issued a request for the connection speed to be
increased, and she tested the line and she said I can get up to 6.5 Mbps,
which I think I'll prefer to my old 31.2 kbps connection.
