full of so much computing power can boot up the same way as a Windows MEPC.
OK I gave this one a bit more thought and sussed it. Play a DVD in Dolby
5.1. Eject it and play any CD. Pre-emphasis is all up the spout. I have a
friend with contacts at Pioneer. They are going to get a bug report about
their DVR-930H.
I think some modern electronics is just too complicated for its own good, but
it's nice when you can find an identifiable problem so you can at least work
around it, rather than just some occasional annoyance you aren't quite sure
of and can't quite put your finger on.
There may be something similar with the Panasonic HDD/DVD machines, as my
older one (DMR-HS2) sometimes gives no sound output from the hard drive or
tuner if I've just been playing a DVD, though a "soft" power reset (i.e. into
standby from the remote, not disconnection from the mains) will fix it. It
doesn't happen every time, so I was never able to try enough experiments to
find exactly which sequence of operations might cause it, though I think it
might be affected by whether the DVD drive is in stop mode before the disk is
removed, or possibly whether the disk is removed before selecting the hard
drive. It's only happened once with the new machine, but by then I'd got into
the habit of pressing stop after playing a DVD, then removing the disk and
then switching drives, so it may have been that.
Glad to hear you're on the track of it anyway.
Rod.
