If DAB is dead, turn it into visual radio. DAB Text displays are like the
mobile phones which are so out of date you're supposed hide them in a brown
paper bag; a coarse 2 line scrolling text display with a green backlight.
Why not use a better text display which can show all available lines of text
at once so you don't have to wait for it to scroll, use a variety of better
looking, more readable fonts with colour, and show colour pictures,
everything we take for granted with a mobile phone? Visual radio could be
free on DAB, instead of being limited to expensive subscription access via
mobile phone. If people want medium quality portable radio with a visual
element then let them have it on DAB instead of using mobile phones for it,
and use a system other than DAB to cater for audiophiles.

DVB-H will also will be restricted to subscribers, like ITV Digital, so
restricting it's popularity. Increase the visual bitrate on DAB and you get
DAB-TV. DAB-TV could be free, and provide a replacement for pocket TVs after
analogue switch off, unlike DVB-H which cannot replace them because of the
subscription. DVB-H requires a new network of transmitters, whereas DAB-TV
could hijack an existing network at very low cost.
