DAB sounds worse than FM a écrit :
But just look at the result of advances in technology:
A 192kbps MP2 station on DAB requires 285 kHz of spectrum. A 64kbps aacPlus station on DRM requires 20kHz of spectrum!!
10 kHz is just in AM to obtain good sound at 20,96 kbps in mono !
With Band II perhaps can use low robust and use 72 kbps on 20 kHz, but is it with good reception condition ?
it must be tested.
Which system must be use in this condition ? The "best" will be always developping. so, nobody will never choose digital system.
DRM is already operating today.
yes below 30 MHz ...
PS : When I tell about DAB I think DMB evolution. Same broadcast network, so it's low cost evolution.
No. If you talk about DMB then say DMB, not DAB.
But it's compatible (DMB receivers can receive DAB programs).
Didn't TDF say in their submission to the digital radio public consultation that they thought 128kbps was good enough for everything apart from classical music?
Face it, if you use DAB you will use 128kbps for music stations.
I repeat, mp2 is old codec, but not so bad like you want we say every day.
So, are you completely ignoring the DVB-H Validation Task Force report???????
http://www.dvb.org/documents/press-releases/DVB_pr128%20DVB-H%20Validation%20Final.pdf http://webapp.etsi.org/action/PU/20050517/tr_102401v010101p.pdf
I understand DVB-H must use QSPK modulation for mobile reception !
And no test realised for mode D (speed > 130 km/h)
It's only a validited system not a tested system.
Actually, DVB prove it can transmit information with DVB-H protocol. It doesn't say that DVB-H is ready for production.
This is what I understand.
Correct. So don't suggest that 128kbps MP2 is good or ever will be good.
http://www.minidisc.org/French_tech/section17.html not the best but not the worst
I don't see your point. It is true that aacPlus will improve over the next few years, but that strengthens my argument against DAB because MP2 is too old to improve by anything more than a tiny amount. Improvements in audio codecs tend to happen early on in the codec's lifecycle. MP2 is at the end of its lifecycle now, and it's just about to go out of service (well, it should be going out of service...).
certainly.
But I can bet that we will have the same debate about AAC+ when broadcast will want use 24 kbps in few years.
At this time, we will can say that it's possible to broadcast more than 400 radios on 1 multiplex but sounds worse than FM ! ;)
