We need better English Bibles translated from Hebrew and Aramaic and Greek, not Latin.
The Latin Texts, though not 100% accurate, they are a better translation of Hebrew and Aramaic and Greek than any English Translation. But at best, the English Bibles are a poor Translation of the Latin Texts, as the English Texts even contradict the Latin in places while also contradicting the Hebrew and Aramaic and Greek.
Ever since old Saxon, English Bibles have been mostly translated from Latin and not from Hebrew and Aramaic and Greek. Look in the following at Isaiah 45:7 for an example. Even the Jewish Publication Society translation uses identically the English word “create” translated from Latin that contradicts the Hebrew Text that say, “finishing,” and all the English Texts add the same pronouns and articles that are neither in the Latin Text or the Hebrew Text.
In the late 1300s Wycliffe’s English translations were made from Latin Texts, not Hebrew or Greek, and many of the following English Texts began by using the existing translations of the Latin Texts, and by using Latin Lexicons that define the Hebrew and Greek words. In the early 1500s, Tyndale's translations partly from Hebrew and Greek, were molded on Martin Luther's German Translation, but used as its base, the previous English translations made from Latin, which it left unchanged in most places. And both used Latin Lexicons that defined the Hebrew and Greek words, for developing their Texts. But Tyndale's translation was written in English, and with its unchanged Latin Translations left intact, it became the foundation of most of the Great Bible, the Bishops Bible, and the King James Bible, which were in competition with the Geneva Bible for popularity. But these all were in competition with the Latin Vulgate and Catholic Translations, and all these use the same English Latin Translation as their base Text.
An example, there are no verbs in Hebrew for “was,” “is,” “are,” or “to be,” and wherever they appear in English translations, they were made up and added by the translator, often using them for the Hebrew word יהי, which means to “birth.” Like where Latin uses the verb “fiat” and “facta” meaning “be,” and “was,” but both Hebrew and Greek use words that mean “birth,” in Genesis 1:3, “and Elohim said, birth light, and birth light,” not, “and God said, let there be light, and there was light,” but all the English Texts in existence use the same English Latin Translation.
The majority of the English translations of the scriptures came from Latin Texts, and or from Latin Lexicons that define the meaning of Hebrew and Greek words, and not from Hebrew and or Greek.
ברא which means "to finish" in all of its usages, is translated from Latin as "confodiantur" to "stabbing," sometimes, and "creavit" or "creans" to "create" or "created" other times.
Here in Ezekiel the Latin does not change the order of the Hebrew words much, but both the English DRB Latin Translation, and the English KJV Hebrew Translation, change the order of the words.
ורגמו עליהן אבן קהל וברא אותהן בחרבותם בניהם ובנותיהם יהרגו ובתיהן באשׁ ישׂרפו׃
Ezekiel 23:47
My Translation here is the same word order as Hebrew.
“And shall stone upon them with stones, the company, and finish with swords theirs, slaying sons and daughters theirs, and houses theirs with fire burning.”
Correct English.
“And the company shall stone upon them with stones, and finish with their swords, slaying their sons and daughters, and burning their houses with fire.”
Ezekiel 23:47
Vulgate
et lapidentur lapidibus populorum et confodiantur gladiis eorum filios et filias earum interficient et domos earum igne succendent
(and stone with stones, people, and stab with swords theirs, sons and daughters theirs, and houses theirs fire set,)
Ezekiel 23:47
DRB
“And let the people stone them with stone, and let them be stabbed with their swords: they shall kill their sons and daughters, and their houses they shall burn with fire.”
Ezekiel 23:47
KJV
“And the company shall stone them with stones, and dispatch them with their swords; they shall slay their sons and their daughters, and burn up their houses with fire.”
Ezekiel 23:47
JPS
“And the assembly shall stone them with stones, and despatch them with their swords; they shall slay their sons and their daughters, and burn up their houses with fire.”
Ezekiel 23:47
Here in Isaiah, the KJV and DRB and JPS are identical using the Latin “creans” as “create,” instead of Hebrew בורא, “finishing,” and the KJV and DRB and JPS add the word “things,” and all three add the same pronouns and articles that do not exist in Hebrew or Latin.
יוצר אור ובורא חשׁך עשׂה שׁלום ובורא רע אני יהוה עשׂה כל־אלה׃
Isaiah 45:7
My Translation here is the same word order as Hebrew.
“forming light and finishing darkness, making peace and finishing evil, I Yahweh make all thus.”
Isaiah 45:7
Vulgate
formans lucem et creans tenebras faciens pacem et creans malum ego Dominus faciens omnia haec
(forming light and creating darkness, making peace and creating evil, I the Lord make all things.”
Isaiah 45:7
DRB
“I form the light, and create darkness, I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord that do all these things.”
Isaiah 45:7
KJV and JPS
“I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.”
Isaiah 45:7
At best, the English Bibles are a poor Translation of the Latin Texts, as the English Texts even contradict the Latin in places while also contradicting the Hebrew and Aramaic and Greek.
