The sea level has been rising approx. a tenth of an inch per year for
last 100 years as a result of global warming. This rate is increasing
with measurements from 1993 forward showing an average rate of an
eighth inch / year. It is estimated that sea level has risen approx.
8 - 12 inches over the past century. The greater concern is the
cessation of the thermohaline circulation. Slow and steady change ...
nothing to panic about ... but certainly something to plan for. Not
to worry, another decade and it will be irreversible anyway. Enjoy
your beach property now while you can.

Okay, let us assume you are right, what are we going to do to prevent the
event from happening?

First we need to acknowledge that it IS happening to make decisions
about what we want to do about it. What areas should we try to save
by building levies, etc.
What areas should we consider moving people
from and where will we move them to. Should we allow continued tax
payer spending in areas that will be under water in a couple decades
if no action is taken. There are a multitude of ways to plan and
prepare for what we know is happening. There is also the
consideration of more study to insure these changes won't permanently
change our climate in ways that will change our ability to grow food,
etc. The last thing we should be doing is simply turning a blind eye
to it as if it isn't happening. There is room for debate about how
much is naturally occurring and how much man is causing. Or if there
is anything preventable about what is happening, etc. But until we
stop ignoring it we won't begin to deal with it.

You have to build levees and do the things you are suggesting we do, when you have come to the conclusion that you cannot stop global warming from happening, or that it is not cost effective to try and stop global warming from happening. So, which is it? What do you think we should do? Try to stop the event from happening, or just be prepared for the event happening, if it happens at all?
