Consumer cars and trucks are all basically fuel injected and computer
controlled
these days, I'm told. That means they can be reprogrammed for maximum
fuel
efficiency at some cost to sport-type performance, i.e. aceleration
and top speed.
Auto manufacturers need to be REQUIRED to assist any vehicle owner
that wants
to de-rate their vehicle with no warranty penalty.
It takes about 10 hp to keep an SUV moving at 60 mph. Everything else
is luxury.
Americans like performance. They hate $4 and $5 gas more than
performance, however.
You can see the effect fuel prices have already had on leisure driving
on any street
in America.
