No, I wouldn't. And the reason is very simple and I explained it to you
before.

Yes, I remember.

I live in a part of the country where the MS13 is very prominent.
These guys go around in groups of 6 to 10. They kick in the doors of peoples
homes and they tie up the husband and any brothers. They then make them
watch while they all rape the Mother and any sisters. Then they ransack the
house and gather up all the valuables they can find. Then they load them up
in their vehicle, go back in the house and kill everyone there. Now, here's
the deal. First, I can still do a lot of the moves that I was taught when I
was an Air Commando in Vietnam. But there is no way that I could defend my
family against 6 or more kick burglars. And the kicker, most of the murders
are done by slashing the throats with knives taken from the kitchen of the
home they are in.

These are terrible events you are describing. In deciding on the danger to
myself, and others who are close to me, I am going by the numbers. We have
invasion robberies here, about one every two or three years in an area of
about 3 million people. When they happen, it makes the papers.

The crimes you describe are frightening, but the odds of an event like that
happening in my city, let alone to me personally, are so small that I'll go
without any gun protection.

I really believe that's the safest thing right now. I've been in exactly
one fight, as an adult, where I was drawn in to protect another person. I
am damn glad that guns were _not_ involved, or I might not be here today.

That's my situation. If I did decide things were as bad as you are
describing, I might feel as you do.

Now, when that comes to your town, and rest assured it will because they are
growing like weeds and the police can not ever come close to stopping them,
and someone close to you suffers that tragedy, maybe you will understand why
I believe in the right to protect my family with anything and everything I
can get my hands on. I understand there are many people that do not love
their families as I love mine, and I don't care whether they want to defend
them or not, but NOTHING, laws, constitutions, whining liberals, NOTHING,
will stop me from having the means to defend mine. NOTHING!

I do love the people close to me, and I respect your conclusions, given
your situation, and your ability to use weapons effectively. Would a rifle
work as well, or better, in your situation, than a handgun?
