Mormonism On Blacks, Jews, & Native Americans...
Governor Romney's recent speech about his religion did not come close to
commenting on some of that church's most sensitive doctrines, beliefs so
controversial in America's contemporary political climate that they may
still have the potential for subjecting his candidacy to ruinous scandal.
It would certainly be useful if he were to comment on these doctrines and
clarify whether or not they might influence his actions or attitudes if he
were to become President. The following verbatim passages about Blacks,
Jews, and Native Americans are all taken from the principal Mormon
scriptural work ?The Book of Mormon,? except for one found in an equally
sacred Mormon text ?Doctrines and Covenants:?
ABOUT JEWS:
"But behold, the Jews were a stiff-necked people; and they despised the
words of plainness, and killed the prophets, and sought for things that they
could not understand. Wherefore, because of their blindness, which blindness
came by looking beyond the mark, they must needs fall...
--The Book of Mormon, Jacob 4:14.
"And it shall come to pass, that this generation of Jews shall not pass away
until every desolation which I have told you concerning them shall come to
pass...
--Doctrines and Covenants, 45:21
"...for their works were works of darkness, and their doings were doings of
abominations."
--The Book of Mormon, 2-Nephi 25:2
"And as one generation hath been destroyed among the Jews because of
iniquity, even so have they been destroyed from generation to generation
according to their iniquities..."
--The Book of Mormon, 2-Nephi 25:9.

"And cursed shall be the seed of him that mixeth with their seed... And
because of their cursing which was upon them, they did become an idle
people, full of mischief and subtlety..."

become like unto a flint; wherefore, as they were white, and exceedingly
fair and delightsome, that they might not be enticing unto my people, the
Lord God did cause a skin of blackness to come upon them."

"And thus saith the Lord God: I will cause that they shall be loathsome unto
thy people, save they shall repent of their iniquities."

ABOUT NATIVE AMERICANS (called "Lamanites" in Mormon scripture)::
"Now the heads...were shorn; and they were naked, save it were skin which
was girded about their loins, and also their armor, which was girded about
them, and their bows, and their arrows, and their stones, and their slings,
and so forth. And [their] skins were dark, according to the mark [i.e.,
curse] which was set upon their fathers..."
--The Book of Mormon, Alma 3:5-6.
"And it came to pass that whosoever did mingle his seed with [theirs] did
bring the same curse upon his seed."
--The Book of Mormon, Alma 3:9.
"They were led by their evil nature that they became wild, and ferocious,
and a blood-thirsty people, full of idolatry and filthiness; feeding upon
beasts of prey; dwelling in tents, and wandering about in the wilderness
with a short skin girdle about their loins and their heads shaven; and their
skill was in the bow, and in the cimeter, and the axe. And many of them did
eat nothing save it was raw meat; and they were continually seeking to
destroy us.
