THE SHAME OF HIROSHIMA AND THE GLORIFICATION OF CHILD KILLERS.

+++It seems that a lot of press and accolades have been given to Paul
Tibbets on his recent death and the resultant sickening glorification
of murdering thousands of innocent women and small children seems to
be lost amidst the flag-waving fervor of the warmongering types.

+++That U.S. attack in August, 1945, that deliberately took the lives
of many young children on their way to school in Hiroshima will
forever be a black mark on the United States of America as a heinous
act that cannot ever be justified and/or forgiven by anyone with the
smallest shred of a decent conscience.

+++The eyes of young helpless and innocent children watching the
explosion were melted and their faces became giant charred blisters.
The skin of those children not immediately killed and seeking help
dangled from their fingernails and their painful agony was
indescribably horrible. Others died when their eyeballs and internal
organs burst from their bodies. The horrific murder of these young
innocent children who had never lifted a negative finger against any
U.S. soldier was most definitely NOT a shining hour for Paul Tibbets,
his crew and the U.S. government.

+++Like most of the others killed by the two American bombs, neither
the children nor the adults had any direct role in Japan's decision to
go to war. The target preferred by U.S. atomic scientists-a patch in
the ocean or unpopulated terrain-was rejected, because the effect of
hundreds of thousands of civilians dying would be all the more
dramatic.

+++Out of the 370,000 overall deaths, a huge 85% had NOTHING to do
with the war against the US except for the fact they were citizens of
a country that was at war, a war not of their choosing or
implementation.

+++Of course, there were the usual lame attempts at justification and
they will, no doubt, be mundanely rehashed and repeated as a response
to this post; however, those with intelligent lines of thought would
say there could NEVER, EVER be justification in PURPOSELY SLAUGHTERING
YOUNG INNOCENT CHILDREN, and they would be so right! NO ARGUMENT,
NOTHING, can wash away that sin of mass murder in August, 1945.

+++In regards to the death of Paul Tibbets and the resultant discourse
on the morality of the bombing of Hiroshima and the innocents killed
there, much has been ballyhooed about how we had no alternative.

+++Many have trotted out the old military/government line about how an
invasion of Japan would have cost even more lives, both Japanese and
American. They have also presented this argument as a fact, almost
etched in stone, and that is where THEY ARE TOTALLY WRONG! It MAY be
true but it also MAY be false. Why??? Because it is not a FACT, it
is an OPINION.

+++Webster's dictionary makes the distinction quite clear.

OPINION = a belief or judgement based upon grounds insufficient to
produce complete certainty. A personal view, attitude or appraisal.

FACT= something that actually exists or has already happened.

+++So when I stated elsewhere that it is my OPINION that the horror
unleashed upon Hiroshima was wrong and that other solutions might have
been available, an immediate outcry ensued and one of the primary
aspects of that was the trotting out of the old, familiar military/
government line that if we had invaded the Japanese homeland millions
more lives, both civilian and military, would have been lost.

+++The problem with that is that those who presented it implied and
truly believed that it definitely was a fact while it was only a
collective opinion and speculation and no one really will ever know
for certain since the invasion NEVER HAPPENED.

+++That being the case, anyone with a sense of rational sequential
thought and a brain can see that we still, even today, DON'T REALLY
KNOW FOR CERTAIN, whether we needed to annihilate Hiroshima and all
those innocents or not. Now, THAT'S a fact (that we never will know
the answer).

+++See how easy things can be if you use your brain and not your
emotional gut to respond to things. More members of these newsgroups
should get an education, take their collective brains off the shelf
and start responding with mental maturity instead of chest-thumping
blowhard opinions. Now that's just an OPINION.
