They didn't. They employ scientists to teach and do research. The
scientists modeling global climate seem to think that there is a
warming trend. The universities did not intentionally come upon an
idea and exploit it for their benefit.

New programs in "entrepeneurial environmentalism" are
cropping up all over the place. Solar cell technology, biofuels etc.
are big business and they're definitely not free!!

What's your beef with basic research into alternative energies? Oil
will run out, then what?

Tens of thousands
of dollars to be trained in these "clean technologies". And the
products won't be cheap either. Probably more expensive than
conventional technologies. Is there any surprise here?

New technology usually costs more to implement than continuing old
technology. That is the way the market works -- you have to pay for
development. You seem to be an economic and scientific ignoramus.

Of course, billions are still being blown failing to develop
controlled nuclear fusion.

There are huge programs attempting to develop fusion energy. You have
no idea what you are talking about. You really are an ignoramus.

am well aware of the money being wasted on the nonsense being called

"scientists" engaged in it are well aware of this fact.
