Nope. We pay for marketing and advertising. You know, all that "Ask

your doctor."
You really don't have a clue, do you/?
This is the most damning statement about the American health care
system is it is fare more costly than any other in the world, does not
care for a high percent of the population, and is very dubious in the
claim to deliver better quality health care. Per Wikipedia - In 2001
the United States spent in total 13.6% of its annual GDP on health
care. In Canada only 9.5% of the GDP was spent on health care

Technology
A major difference between the Canadian and American health spending is on
investment in technology. This is a long-standing difference noted long
before government polices on health diverged in the 1960s. American doctors
and hospitals are far more likely than their Canadian counterparts to
purchase new and expensive devices and technologies[citation needed].
Canadian doctors have a tendency to be far more skeptical and thus wait
until technologies are proven and have fallen in price[citation needed].
Canada has more hospital beds per capita and Canadian patients spend more
time in hospitals than Americans. An American patient is more likely to be
rapidly treated by a specialist with the most up to date equipment;
Canadians are more likely to be treated by their GP and cared for over a
period of time in hospital[citation needed]. Comparisons have found little
difference between the effectiveness of the two styles, but the Canadian one
is cheaper[citation needed]. The lack of the most recent technology is one
of the most common causes of Canadians crossing the border to seek treatment
in the United States. However, more poor Americans cross the border into
Canada for more effective treatments. To a certain extent sending some
patients south is cost effective for Canada. The most expensive medical
equipment is also often some of the most specialized. In much of Canada it
makes financial sense to occasionally pay to rent a piece of American
equipment than to buy it outright and have it sit unused much of the
time[citation needed].
Do you know how WIkipedia works? It is run by volunteers and obviously
some volunteer who like you naively believes the American health care
system is the best in the world wrote a bunch of garbage without citing
sources of information. That is why you see "citation needed" in so
many of the above comments that are not substantiated.
The bottom line is very few people who live in a system with universal
health care would be stupid enough to copy the American system that
does not deliver better health care, has many that are not covered and
is the most expensive system on the planet. Even Wikipedia
acknowledges higher wages for medical professionals, higher admin cost,
higher cost for lawsuits and insurance contribute to huge cost
blowouts.
Of course if you never lived outside the USA you might naively believe
it is the best health care system in the world, but fact is it is not.
The US health care system is an unmitigated disaster and it's getting
rapidly worse.
