Re: SBC Pushing Fraud on Patriotic Americans?

Oh...and since we are on the topic of public utilities of sorts, a
school teacher in central Florida was charged over $14,000.00 for her
water bill!!! Roughly for about 3 million gallons over a month's time.
Obviously a major screw up. That or she must take quite a few showers
over a month's time. ;-)

Local Teacher: I Got a $14,000 Water Bill!

POSTED: 10:33 am EDT August 13, 2006

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. -- When Sherry Stewart opened the mailbox
Saturday, she never expected the surprise she would find inside.

Her monthly water bill from the Seminole County water utility claimed
she owed $14,189.99! That meant she'd used more than $500 of water at
her home near Casselberry each day.

"We haven't filled or emptied the pool this month, and we don't
have a sprinkler system," Stewart said. She also drinks bottled water
regularly, and her regular water bill averages $30-$40 a month. So why
the huge bill?

The utility had installed a new water meter at the Stewart's home.
Upon installation, they were told to expect a slight increase on their
bill.

After the $14,000 charge, the Stewarts checked the meter. It didn't
even appear to be moving.

"It was frightening," said Stewart. "It's almost half my income,
and when something like this happpens on the weekends there's no one to
talk about it."

The bill claimed the Stewarts used more than two million gallons of
water. But they learned, the way the pipes in their home are set up,
there's no way they could go through that much water in a month.

Channel 9 Eyewitness News was able to talk with someone at the utility,
who agreed the bill was probably human error. The Stewarts said they
were just glad they didn't have an automatic payment for the bill set
up with their bank account.

They hope to resolve the issue on Monday

Dear fellow Americans,

Nor am I bitching about being minority or oppressed or whatever.

I am just stating that SBC/AT@T charged me double what independent
phone representatives of SBC quoted me on the phone. Then they refused

to correct the bill, telling me that it's against their policy to
change their fraudulent billing.

I am poor, so I can't afford a lawyer.

Other people, both poor and middle class told me as well that SBC
engaged in fraudulent billing practices as well, giving a certain quote

and then charging double or more on the bill, probably assuming that
since they have a telecommunications monopoly, they can do whatever
they want, and the FCC is in their pocket so they won't bother to stop
the fraud.

This is what happens when the public allow monopolies to form in which
compannies buy off other ones until no competition is left. AT@T
buying off SBC should not have been supported by the public. I think
we should all petition our politicians to break up the
telecommunications monopolies and investigate into fradulent billing
practices.

God Bless.
