An observation about the current Israel-Hezbollah fracas

Fracas, war, whatever. Some interesting stuff going on.
The reaction of the major Muslim nations is, IMHO, important -- Saudi
Arabia, Egypt, Libya -- and the small sheikdoms -- Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar,
and others -- all have basically told Hezbollah "you started this ***,
don't look to us for help."
A couple of days ago Hezbollah reportedly asked the Saudis for assistance
and the Saudis replied "you assholes started this without warning us, you
get yourself out of it." This reply was echoed by every other Middle East
nation except for Syria and Iran -- both of whom have been very quiet.
In the past, they would have leapt to Hezbollah's defense. Why the
difference? Because -- Hezbollah is supported heavily by Iran -- weapons,
missiles, training, sanctuary, advisers, cash. Hezbollah is also supported
by Syria -- Iranian equipment and trainers are stashed in Syria and fed into
Lebanon as Hezbollah needs them. AND -- Iran is a major source of support
for fundamentalist Muslim groups throughout the Middle East that seek to
overthrow local governments. Every Middle Eastern nation faces a serious
threat from internal Islamic fundamentalists supported by Iran. Iranian
Shiites support the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, Al Qaeda in Saudi Arabia,
and other fundamentalist groups throughout the Middle East.
Over the past few years, the attacks by Islamic fundamentalists on US
interests in the Middle East (Kobar Towers, the USS Cole, etc., etc.) have
been followed by similar attacks by the same people on the governments of
Saudi Arabia, Egypt, etc., etc. If you think we are worried about Islamic
fundamentalist terrorists -- these folks are scared shitless because they
understand how wacky and dedicated the terrorists are -- after all, the
terrorists are their own cousins.
So, when Israel determines to take a big chunk out of Hezbollah, the major
Arab nations -- except Iran and Syria -- just love it because they see this
as hurting Iran and diverting support away from their own internal terrorist
threats -- anything that weakens Iran helps the Saudis, the Egyptians, etc.,
etc.
Of course, none of them will say any of this in public but that's the way it
is. Let's hope the rest of the world is smart enough to dilly-dally around,
debate in the UN, and stall -- while Israel kicks ass and takes names.
