Try, "This disaster is going to impact this continent (maybe even much of
the world)..." The financial repercussions due to the interruption of the
heating oil, fuel and natural gas processing from the region will effect
North America directly and the rest of the world indirectly. A downward
trend in the US economy will put strain on major US trading partners like
Canada. Even though Canada is a net exporter of fossil fuels our prices for
both the international and domestic markets are based on market value. The
price of gas has jumped up over $1.20/Litre in Toronto (approx. $3.73/US
Gal.). In Vancouver its averaging $1.01/Litre (approx. $3.14/US Gal.) but as
high as $1.16/Litre (approx. $3.60/US Gal.) and the current trend is UP!
Bush's dipping into the US oil reserve will have little to no effect as
there is plenty of oil available right now (in terms of the worlds daily
output) to take up the slack, it was nothing but a PR ploy.
