Turd Blossom and the Politics of Stupid

14 March 2010

Bushie calls Karl Rove “Turd Blossom” because everything he touches
turns to shit.

The fact of the matter is that Team Bush came to Washington
determined to occupy Iraq. In the short span of my life, I have never
seen the level of American saber rattling that occurred after 20
January 2001 as it was evident that Cheney and the neo-con Chicken
Hawks were determined to implement the Project for the New American
Century. Karl Rove may believe something else, but he is lying to
himself. And this unilateral belligerence continued until the Spy
Plane incident, when China came out to see how serious we were. And
even with the air crew from the reconnaissance aircraft was being
braced by godless communism, the neo-cons continued to agitate on the
basis that, even if Iraq was not immediately available for a good war,
China would do.

Fortunately, Colin Powell and the adult leadership at Foggy Bottom
fashioned a diplomatic solution that solved the problem in such as way
as to significantly improve our relations with China which would prove
critical after 911 and constructive in the current financial crises.

After the Spy Plane incident, it appeared that the boil was off the
Project for the New American Century. We had dodged the bullet of
McKinley-era neo-colonial adventurism and could focus on repairing the
damage cause by the commercial terrorism of Enron. The drive-by media
refuses to connect the dots between Enron’s piracy and the recession
which resulted, but the fact of the matter is that the dotcom economy
did burst: it was blown up when Enron sucked the liquidity out of the
California middle class.

And then came 911.

The occupation of Iraq was a stupid idea. There was a reason why Bush
the Elder didn’t go into Iraq and now we know why. There wasn’t any
immediate threat from Saddam: we had him on his back, with a foot on
his chest and a bayonet at his throat. Even if he had significant
stores of WMD and a means of delivering it, where was he going to go?
The capacity of Tommy Franks to secure Baghdad International Airport
was a forgone conclusion and if Bushie had taken a year to assemble a
coalition similar to what Bush the Elder did during Desert Storm, the
enterprise could have been handed off to the UN Blue Helmets
immediately after securing Baghdad International along the lines of
the NATO project in the Balkans and proceeded to regime change by
means of the international courts as occurred in Serbia with
Milosivich.

Everybody that died after Baghdad International was secured, whether
American, Iraqi or collateral damage, died needlessly and as a direct
result of the cosmic incompetence, applied stupidity and wishful
thinking of Cheney, his Chicken Hawks and the Karl Rove wing of the
GOP. Karl Rove obviously resents Powell calling him “Private” and
dropping him for 20 when confronted with Rove’s sophistry, but the
historic evidence is that Powell wasn’t nearly critical enough of
Rove’s ambitions and appetites, as measured by the cost to his own
contribution to the folly of Iraqi occupation.

Fortunately, Bushie removed the people who think like Karl Rove and
replaced them with Bob Gates and, as a result of the Surge, the
misbegotten neo-colonialism of the Project for the New American
Century is being transformed by the devotion to duty of the military
into an element of Bushie’s Democracy agenda in the region.

But this merely begs the question: why is anyone paying any attention
to Karl Rove and anyone who holds his Fascist conceits and ideological
thuggery? In particular, why would any West Pointer from any Class
imbued with the values of Duty-Honor-Country align themselves in any
manner with these people in retrospect? It’s a mystery to me. If
Robert E. Lee was alive and witness to events since 2001, I would
wonder out loud if he had inquired into Colin Powell’s reflections on
being Dick Cheney’s Lawn Jockey at the United Nations.

I mean, I’m perfectly satisfied that Powell was perfectly subordinate
to his political master and performed his duty flawlessly.
Furthermore, I’ll stipulate that, within the context of the chain of
command and the niceties of the US Constitution, he acted fully within
the letter of the law to serve country’s interests. But it strikes me
that the abiding sentiment of West Pointers aligned to the Cult of
Duty-Honor-Country by their magic decoder rings is that two out of 3
ain’t bad. I left the Army in part to avoid tarnishing my dad’s
service and I sort of hope that, at some point, West Pointers might
set an example of informed discrimination with prejudice regarding
anything associated with Karl Rove as a proxy for the Fascist wing of
the GOP, if only for the novelty of the experience and no matter how
inconvenient for their personal self-image

What I’m looking for are 30 West Pointers from any Class who are as
committed to supporting McCrystal’s mission as Karl Rove, Rush
Limbaugh and the Tea Parties are committed to causing President
Obama’s failure and are willing to submit to the Points of Light
Program to do for the civilian community what the Army Family Team
Building has done for readiness and resilience in the Army community
by recreating the national mobilization which occurred after Pearl
Harbor.

And that’s truth.
