When people do something that is morally wrong or critically mistaken, and they do so with prior knowledge, often they will go to extra lengths to keep others from knowing what they are doing.

The Bush presidency has been morally wrong and critically mistaken since its inception. Only now is their veil of secrecy being at least a little bit lifted.
