other leading Democrats had held private talks as worry mounted that
the close race between Senators Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham
Clinton could be decided by a group of 795 party insiders known as
superdelegates."

Worse is the mess that they did not anticipate regarding Florida and
Michigan, which are now very seriously going to be red states if they don't
seat the delegates or work out a do-over which Democrats nationwide will
now have to pay for.
