It's Open Season on Undocumented Immigrants
In a desperate bid to find something - anything -that might offer them a
glimmer of hope in 2008, the Republican party has hitched its star to the
dark side. Moderate Republicans and a small contingent of pandering,
lily-livered Democrats have joined forces with the anti-immigrant
hate-mongers like Tom Tancredo to demonize the weakest and most vulnerable
element of our society, the estimated 12 million citizens of other countries
who live and work among us without proper immigration documentation.
Yesterday on Special Report, Bush-buddy and biographer Bill Sammon joined
panelists Mort Kondracke and Bill Kristol to discuss New York Governor Eliot
Spitzer's withdrawal of his plan to offer state-only licenses to
undocumented immigrants. With video.

Xenophobia plays well in the Fox "heartland." Rather than blame the
employers who are exploiting these pooor folks, whilst making profits, the
ire is directed at the immigrants themselves. It's a total redux of the
nativism that was so popular in the 19th century and Fox is a nativist
network. Wonder if the lawn crews for the Fox biggies all have green cards -
doubt it!

The xenophobia of the republican party will ensure that far few Hispanics
will vote republican next year. In purple western states with large Hispanic
populations, like Nevada, that will mean a loss of electoral votes.

republican Christofascists are perfect examples of the kind of people who
would not be at all disturbed if 12 million people suddenly just
disappeared.
