No not this week and not under President Bush , but back in 1995 when 739
Democrats died in Chicago Heat wave and Clinton was too busy vacationing in
the Rockies to be bothered doing anything about it.
Chicago Heat Wave of 1995
In July 1995, a Heat wave in Chicago, Illinois led to approximately 739
heat-related deaths over a period of five days. It is now considered to be
one of the worst weather-related disasters in Illinois history.
The scale was shocking, although the event itself may not have been that
unusual. Eric Klinenberg, author of the 2002 book Heat Wave: A Social
Autopsy of Disaster in Chicago, has noted that in the United States, the
loss of human life in hot spells in summer exceeds that caused by all other
weather events combined, including lightning, rain, floods, hurricanes, and
tornadoes
