No longer are evangelicals The Enemy:

But a sense of proportion should also guide those who police the
boundaries between church and state. Not every mention of God in public
is a breach to the wall of separation - context matters. It is doubtful
that children reciting the Pledge of Allegiance feel oppressed or
brainwashed as a consequence of muttering the phrase "under God." I
didn't. Having voluntary student prayer groups use school property to
meet should not be a threat, any more than its use by the High School
Republicans should threaten Democrats. And one can envision certain
faith-based programs - targeting ex-offenders or substance abusers -
that offer a uniquely powerful way of solving problems.

The question is: Will you leftists put up with this guy? Or will you
abandon him, the way you abandoned Hillary because she wants to ban
flag burning, and she's stayed true on the course in Iraq?

You still dont get it, and it looks like you never will. Democrats use a
much larger umbrella than republicans. You dont have to march in a
single file and say ditto everytime a democrat opens his mouth.
Disagreement among democrats is accepted as a part of the party. It is
embraced, not rejected. One could say I could disgree with Mr. Obama and
Senator Clinton on some issues and agree on others, and still be a
democrat, and not made to feel I have to run around looking for another
party. No, I am a democrat and will not change because I disgree on some
issues with some party legislators. There is no perfection to a
political party. There never will be, and pretending everything is rosy
(like the bush republicans) when it is not, will not help.

Your party is simply not that diverse, and thats why things like this
puzzel you, when they are nothing more than differences in matters of
political opinion. No one is going to throw Mr Obama overboard for
voicing his beliefs, and Senator Clinton while being opposed by many
democrats for her opinions on the Iraq war, is still a democrat in good
standing with a large politcal base, and a lot of campaigm money as
well. So, your hopes of seeing the democrats fall apart by disgreement
is not going to happen.

(Actually, it's the GOP that should worry you. Being unable to admit
mistalks is never a good thing.)

There is one rub to that right now, and thats with Joe Lieberman, who is
considering changing to independent, but that is his choice, since he
favors republican legisaltion over democratic legislation. He has to
get off the fence, but thats up to him, and then the voters will tell
him what they think of his choice.

Modern Conservative: Someone who can take time out
from praising the politics of Democrat Zell Miller to
claim that all Democrats are lockstep liberals who
allow no disagreement.
