And another snow job from Christian.
Great pun! But not true, of course. Problem with you leftists is
you're not willing to question conventional wisdom.
I love how you automatically assume that I'm a "leftist" because I'm not
a Bush licking apologist like yourself. Sorry to disappoint, but my views
are very far from being leftist. But that's not the debate here, though
you are trying to shift it to something else. Typical of the brain dead
right, but enough of that.
Tell us how much global warming is caused by human production of green
house gases. One hundred per cent? Fifty? Twenty? And then tell us
what you base your estimate on.
You want me to go back and rehash all of the scientific data on the
subject, right? I've read it. You've read it. Anyone who's interested in
the subject has read it. I've discussed in these groups with you and with
others. So, before you accuse me of evading anything, go look it up for
yourself, you lazy ass.
I see where you get all of your
information now. From, the ?mainstream skeptic? point of view. Which
is fine. I love to see minority reports. I see, too, that they were
not particularly given to debate, but to what the GW side is always
accused of, "emotional finger wagging". The issue of the Antarctic
gaining in snow pack has been known for sometime and just goes to
prove the GW side of the issue. Warmer, moister air produces more
precipitation. To say that this is producing a "check and balance" on
the climate is false. The net effect of GW is going to melt more ice
overall. Look at the Artic. Look at mountain glaciers world wide.
Everything is melting. It's not getting colder at the poles, which
would be more to the point. It's getting warmer.
Average temp. has gone up how far? And has the earth ever been warm
before? Why?
Of course the earth has been warm before. Cold too. Again, you want a
rehash. Go look it up.
And if global warming is the problem you say it is, what does it
matter? If the earth were to die a slow death from CO2, why would you
care? Don't scientists claim that eventually the earth will stop
spinning, will lose its heat -- in short, the earth is doomed,
according to scientists, whether global warming is a factor or not.
What makes you so excited about global warming?
Ultimately the earth will be consumed as the sun expands into a red giant
swallowing all of the inner plants in 5 billion years or so. Nobody will
be around so I don't care. In fact, I'll probably be dead in ten years,
so it really won't matter what happens as far as I'm concerned. But I am
interested in the debate that's happening right now and find the
ignorance of scientific evidence deplorable.
The whole point of the GW debate should not be so much that it's
happening, or even what's causing it.
It matters greatly what's causing it. That's why you leftists continue
to blame it on lack of a Kyoto Accord -- a useless document from the
start -- and George W. Bush, of course.
Again, the leftist thing. I said nothing of the Kyoto Accord and never
advocated one way or the other. I believe that one of the major causes of
GW is greenhouse gas emmissions by the human population, but I don't
happen to believe that it can be stopped. It's not in the human nature to
do so as long as the population continues it's industrialization. It can
be slowed and perhaps reversed to some degree, though. I believe that
it's in the interest of life on earth to attempt to create a cleaner
environment. Are you advocating pollution is a better way to live?
It should be what are we going to
do to mitigate the effects over the long term. I don't happen to
believe that we are going to stop it, no matter the cause.
Then what's the big deal?
A cleaner more livable planet for future generations?
Stop building in
coastal areas like the Gulf Coast for one thing. How long are we
going to have to keep rebuilding year after year only to see it
washed away the next year or the year after at considerable cost to
everyone?
If I read your sentiments correctly, you're saying that New Orleans
shouldn't be rebuilt. Very daring for a leftist.
(sigh). Get off of your high horse, Christian. Yes, I happen to believe
that New Orleans should not be rebuilt. Fact of life. I think that
Florida should be de-populated also, but it ain't gonna happen until they
all have to swim to work. When I live in Los Angeles, I thought people
were nuts for building in canyons and hillsides, but, hey, they paid the
price when they were burned out or slide down the side, didn't they?
There are
going to be changes in where and how we can grow crops. Fishing
grounds are going to disappear.
Why are fishing grounds going to disappear? How does global warming
make that happen? And what is the source of this "scientific"
statement?
It's already occuring where fish species will only survive at certain
tempratures. When the water warms, they're gone. Look at anchovies when
an El Nino occurs. Look at coral reefs dying off in the Gulf as the water
warms.
Some animals will become extinct.
I love "scientific predictions." Which animals? Why? What is it with
you leftists thinking you can blithely simplify the natural world to
make vague, far-reaching statements like this?
Read the literature, Christian. Fingers broken? Can't type? Have a
library card? Maybe you don't have a library where you live. Species
extincts occur due to habitat change. Happens all the time. 99% of
species that have ever lived are now extinct. Think it won't happen
again?
Some areas will
get colder while others get hotter. Especially if the Gulf Stream
shuts down. Now these are going to be gradual and long term changes,
but they're going to happen.
Amazing expertise.
Yes, thank you.
Let move the debate to how we can develop the
technologies and infrastructures to ease the burden on future
generations.
Why do you care about future generations? And are you talking about
the ones that will be hit by a massive meteor, or the ones that will
be on earth when it quits spinning?
Immediate generations, moron.
