There He Goes Again....

In Hamas, former president Jimmy Carter has found yet another murderous
Islamist regime in need of his services. In a Washington Post op-ed
yesterday entitled "Don't Punish the Palestinians," America's
Worst Ex-President declared it was morally and strategically wrong to
withhold funds from the Palestinian Authority's new government, led
by Hamas.

In his perpetually feckless style, Carter suggests, "top Hamas
leaders may choose to concentrate their influence in the parliament and
propose moderates or technocrats for prime minister and cabinet
posts." But peace-loving Hamas moderates might be provoked by
American "collusion" with Israel, especially if Israel chooses to
"withhold funds...Palestinians earn from customs and tax revenue."
(Greedy Jews.)

He griped, "This will present significant obstacles to a government's
functioning effectively."

Exactly. This government is led by a terrorist organization seeking to
push Jews into the Mediterranean and extend a fundamentalist Islamic
Palestine "from the river to the sea," before exporting its jihad.
Pardon Israel if it doesn't want to contribute to the cause; it gave
at the bus stop.

Worse, Israelis won't let "elected Hamas Palestinian Legislative
Council members through any of more than a hundred Israeli
checkpoints." This despite the fact that he acknowledges in his
article nine Hamas members elected to parliament are currently in
prison. These would-be martyrs won't be allowed to meet with fellow
PA legislator Mariam Farahat, a.k.a. Um Nidal ("The Mother of the
Struggle"), the monster who sent three of her six sons to do their
"holy duty" as suicide bombers, killing Jews for "the pride of
jihad."

Not that Carter is troubled by this. Shortly after their election -
which he joyfully certified - Carter referred to Hamas murderers as
"so-called terrorists." When pressed, he acknowledged, "there is
an element within Hamas who deny Israel's right to exist." An
"element"? The Hamas Charter demands the annihilation of the Jewish
state, announcing, "Israel will exist and will continue to exist
until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before
it." Hamas has killed more than 500 Israelis and 27 Americans in
furtherance of this goal. Its members lobbed 20 rockets and 39 mortar
shells at a Jewish settlement less than two weeks ago, on February 9th
(during an official ceasefire, no less) in a vicious round of
"so-called terrorism."

Despite the fact that PA voters gave Hamas a lopsided victory, earlier
this month Carter hoped, "the people of Palestine who already
suffer...under Israeli occupation will not suffer because they are
deprived of a right to pay their school teachers, policemen, welfare
workers, health workers and provide food for people." Then, as now,
he suggested the U.S. channel funds through the UN and "encourage
Russia, Egypt and other nations to exert maximum influence on Hamas to
moderate its negative policies." No word on how they will exert
influence on this genocidal regime while foregoing any economic
retaliation whatsoever.

This sudden aversion to withholding money from foreign governments
defying U.S. policy is new to Carter. In his offensively titled 1996
New York Times op-ed, "America Can Persuade Israel to Make a Just
Peace" - as though peace were being held up by Jewish suicide
bombers! - he suggested America use "persuasion" against Israel.
One "persuasive factor is approximately $10 million daily in American
aid to Israel. President George Bush Sr. threatened this assistance in
1992 to prevent the building of Israeli settlements between Jerusalem
and Bethlehem."

He continued, "I understand the extreme political sensitivity in
America of using persuasion on the Israelis, but it is important to
remember that none of the actions toward peace would involve an
encroachment on the sovereign territory of Israel. They all involve
lands of the Egyptians, Lebanese and Palestinians, as recognized by
international law." (Greedy Jews.)

Jimmy Carter had no problem cutting off funding to America's historic
ally and the Middle East's only democracy ten years ago, but today he
demands American taxpayers and Israeli government officials pony up for
jihadists. This reflects Carter's pro-Islamic history. As head of the
heavily Saudi-financed Carter Center, the former president has
ghostwritten speeches for Yasser Arafat. He even called a secret summit
with Hamas leaders in Cairo in the mid-90s to ask if they would
strengthen Arafat's PA government. (Hamas cancelled on him at the
last minute.)

More to the point, though, it is another example of his knee-jerk
reaction to punish our allies and reward our enemies. During the Cold
War, President Carter withdrew support from Nicaragua's Anastasio
Somoza, leading to his exile in July 1979 and his assassination months
later. Carter sent $90 billion in aid to the new, pro-Soviet Sandinista
government. When it promptly fomented a Communist revolution in
neighboring El Salvador, Carter withdrew recognition from El
Salvador's anti-Communist government, as well. And he undercut the
Shah of Iran as herds of angry Muslim fundamentalists called for his
ouster, because he refused to impose a fascist theocracy.

Come to think of it, Carter gave that government $8 billion in U.S.
funds. Today, we see what that investment has yielded, in Iran and
Palestine. Iran is one of Hamas' top financiers, giving it $3 million
a year. The PA warns if America does not force its taxpayers to
subsidize their Naziesque state, it will turn to Iran for even more
funding. Let it. And when any oppressive, dictatorial regime in the
world need a useful propaganda tool in the West, it need look no
further than the president who declared, "Human rights is the soul of
our foreign policy."
