What do you think is in store for '06?
My predictions:
1. RECESSION. In the second half of the year. Why? An inverted yield
curve (where short-term rates are higher than long-term rates) is one
of the most reliable indicators of an upcoming recession. That signal
just flashed this week, for the first time since 2000. But you say the
economy today is in great shape? Yeah, that's what they said in 1929.
2. US TROOPS SLOWLY BEGIN COMING HOME. Iraq will remain a chaotic mess,
but the White House will grudgingly allow a troop draw-down in hopes of
propping up Republican chances in the November elections.
3. DEMOCRAT VICTORIES IN NOVEMBER. With Iraq still unsettled after
three years, with the Bushies unable to move forward on domestic
issues, and with the wheels coming off the economy, voters will have
had enough. There still won't be much of a Democratic leadership, but
voters will clean house. Republicans lose seats in Congress.
