Niko D2 vs. D700?

I'm thinking of adding a FF digital to the armory, but price *is* a
factor. Is there *any* reason why one would buy a used low-mileage D2
body as opposed to a new D700 body (other than price, that is).
They are about the same weight, ISO range of the D700 is superior, and
it seems that the D700 might have a slighty better shutter. I'm
guessing there might be more auto features on the D700, but I set my
aperture and shutter manually most of the time, so that's a "nice to
have" rather than a "must have". I wear glasses, so diopter correction
is another issue. Also, my F4s has a *much* better viewing screen than
my N75's (even though I appreciate the N-75's lighter weight), so ease
of viewing is a consideration.
I'm sticking to FF because I can use all my Nikon lenses, including
older AF and AI/AI-S. Strictly speaking, I'll use the AI lenses on my
F2, so that's not really an issue. Either way, I'm looking at the
14-24(G) zoom for the WA scene, I think. I have the 24mm 2.8 AF (D),
and the couple 28-80mm (G) lenses, plus the 70-210 AF, so I'm not
starving for glass.
Obviously, I'm leaning toward the D700. (Wife yet to be convinced!)
All thoughts appreciated.

BTW: I normally shoot film, and then scan with a Plustek 7600. BUT!
There are times when a digital is what the doctor ordered, and my P90
will not take filters, and has a weird color shift toward pink when
overexposed a bit. FWIW.
