: I skipped the original "The Original" vs "Modified" and after reading some
: comments I decided to look at them and this is what I can say.
:
: 1. Your photography is getting better, much more improvement. And I think I
: can start enjoy traveling along with you.
:
: Another idea, you can try to photograph just ONE SIDE of the scene (like
: this photo for example). I like the reflections of the right side more than
: left, but the boat is on the left side of river.
:
: I would wait for the boat gets closer to the docking boats, move little to
: the right (because of the boats else I may little more to the left), use
: wide angle to snap the left side only. Neah! I still like the right side
: better, or just enjoy the way it's now.

Leave it as it is, John. Joel is just babbling. Which is, to be fair about it,
what he does best.

: 2. The modified version, I dunno you may need to spend few hundred bucks to
: invest on a hardware monitor calibrator? Heck, I closed it right away, and
: now I have to reopen it to double check.

Bullshit. You're not a digital Ansel Adams, and you don't need a monitor
calibrator. If you have a few hundred dollars available, start saving for a 7D
or a D300.

: I ain't saying anything about the sky which I assume you are trying to
: practice your Photoshop skill (and you seem to be able change the sky now).
: But the WHOLE photo ain't good.

Actually, it's very good. It's Joel's comments that ain't.

: Ohhhh holy cow! I didn't realize you cropped it too. It seems like you
: like close-up and that's what I like too, and that's one of the reasons I
: can't get myself doing landscape.
:
: Because I keep bringing the photo closer and closer so I can see more
: detail of small object (like some small leaves or branches), and to ruin the
: whole photo. That's why even I have all the gears for landscape photography
: (I have lens from 15mm upto 500mm, with macro lens, TeleConverter etc.), but
: I just can't get myself to do landscape photography.

Can you get yourself to do *any* photography, Joel? When's the last time you
submitted anything to the Shoot-In, for example?

: CROPPING is one of the most important parts of photography (processing
: whatever) and you may want to join some web forum relating to "Photo
: Retouching" to have the chance to see different crops of the exact same
: photo from different members.
:
: IOW, you post the photo to forum, asking members to work on the photo then
: post their finals back to forum so everyone can compare them. And this is
: one of the best ways to learn.

So what? John's cropping skills may be better than yours. What we're quibbling
over is his compulsion to colorize the sky.
