Maybe you should learn to use the editing features of Lightroom. You may find
that it handles RAW as conveniently as your current workflow handles JPEG. I
have no experience with either Lightroom or CS4; but in DPP, which I do use,
it's absolutely as easy to do preliminary review on the RAW image as on a
JPEG.
