Now that is a great capture. I much prefer your original.
Certainly some color balance, levels/curves adjustment would be fine, but the artificial bright green is over the top.

I've followed your advice, and re-post the image

do you think it's better?

thanks

OK! but now I am a little confused. Was there some sort of white balance or color issue in the original you posted?
As you seemed to have returned to the green of your initial post.

Would you show us the unshopped original?

Yes try this link:

So these are the questions;
Which is closer to the color you saw at the time you took the shot?
I am going to assume the green was closest to the actual color.

What was the apparent color of the wall?
Do you have a RAW file to work on?

Try to get a well balance image of the gecko as it appeared.

If your latest post was closest to what you want, I have done the following to it in CS4.
I opened it in CS4 and duplicated the layer.
I opened a "Curves" adjustment layer with a layer mask. I darkened the entire image by pulling the center of the curve towards the bottom right. ( It does not matter if the gecko gets too dark at this stage.)
Now click on the mask in the adjustment layer to activate it. and paint on the gecko with black to remove the effect of the adjustment on the gecko.

You should have a wall which appears less blown out, and a gecko which has more presence on the wall.
