Which is better? I got a Sony Alpha 350 for Xmas, with 2 lens that don't
seem to have IS. The 18-70 and the 75-300.
According to the manual, it is in the camera. Is there any difference in
quality?
I have to buy CF cards for it, which is surprising, since I thought all
Sonys used only MS cards.Probably have to go to Ebay for a MS/CF adapter
for it if I want to use memory sticks. Thanks!
Use CF - the interface is quicker (i.e you can take more shots without having to wait for the camera to transfer the data to the card), the cards are higher capacity, cheaper and can be used in many other devices. I use Sandisk extreme III, these allow for continuous shooting without any lag even in RAW mode on my A200.
The 18-70 is quite sharp when stopped down in good light to f8 or higher, it's a good beginners lens but there are better ones out there. The 75-300 has quite a bad rep. but should produce good results stopped down in good light. I use a Sigma 17-70 which is faster (f2.8-4.5) and is alot sharper than the standard lens. I have a Tamron 28-300 zoom which is a lot slower but is good stopped down. I'm saving my pennies now for a sigma 70-200mm f2.8 ....
Try the dyxum.com which is a website run for minolta/sony users inc lens reviews.
http://support.sony-europe.com/dime/digistill/alpha/alpha.aspx?site=odw_en_GB&sc=DIME&m=DSLR-A350 this is the sony support site so you can check minolta lens and flash compatibility.
