Most astrophotographers now take multiple shorter exposures and 'stack'

to get the benefit of long exposure times without suffering from the

And the one that gave a talk at our club uses a webcam mounted on his
telescope, not a conventional digital camera.


Software is available for auto stacking the multiple images.


And the results the chap got from his telescope, webcam and the software
were astonishing.


Yes, that is also an option. As I understand it, in general the webcams need
a hack so that the basic exposure time is increased from 1/25 per 'frame' to
something more suited for astrophotography. Details can be found at the
