Anybody got any handy tips, pointers or things I should be aware of when
shooting a floodlit sporting event?

By all accounts the floodlights at the ground I'll be shooting at on Tuesday
night are very powerfull, of the sort found at medium sized stadiums.

I'm looking for things I need to consider over and above the usual stuff for
shooting sports. Stuff specific to floodlighting instead of natural
lighting.
Would it be safe to just treat it the same as an indoor sporting event?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

They only thing you have to consider, or have control over, is shutter
speed, aperture and white balance. Shoot RAW at the highest ISO that
will deliver the quality you want (or need). You'll want the highest
shutter speed you can get to accomodate handholding and catching the
action, again with the higher ISO's. I think you have a P&S(?) so DOF
shouldn't be a problem, but even with a DSLR, DOF shouldn't cause a
problem.

Auto focus should work well enough with the contrasty lighting. If
not, prefocus on where the action will develop.

Robert brought up an important point about exposure. If the surface
is grass, go manual and meter off that. Grass is about 18% gray
(normally). I had totally forgotten about the potential metering
problems since everything is so automatic for me in manual that I
don't think about what I am doing.
