It's like when I snap I can't apply the rules of composition naturally. I have to really think about what I am doing. Some people are naturals, I am not. Thanks blah
You have to work with what you've got. My advice is to work on the thinking part. Thinking is a good thing.
I suggest you stop snapping, use a tripod, take your time, and think about what you are doing. From a basic composition standpoint learn the rule of thirds, and pay attention to the background and outer edges in your viewfinder. Look at photographs you like, pay attention to how they are composed, and think about the reasons they resonate with you. Then go out and try to duplicate what you saw in those photographs you liked.
