I don't own any Nikon to pay any attention to how they handle the memory
card, but if the camera was released before SDHC first available then it
may need (if available) newer firmware to support the SDHC memory card. I
only have one 8GB SDHC for my GPS so my knowledge of SDHC is very little,
and my understanding that the SD is up to 2GB MAX, and anything larger
than
2GB is SDHC which is a newer format.

IOW, if yours doesn't support SDHC and no newer firmware (you may want to
GOOGLE for more info) then 2GB SD is the max it can handle.

Me? I am a professional photographer (haven't done much lately because of
the health issue) so before the 8GB and 16GB available, I have t use
several
4GB and 2 portable storages (40GB and 60GB). No, I don't use up to 100GB
but because the photos are important so I backup to 2 storage devices for
insurance (just like I have to carry 2 DSLR cameras)

And I have been using digital camera for over a decade and haven't lose
any basket yet (lost around 4-5 photos out of hundreds of thousands of
photos)

Not had a problem with SD cards yet, but did lose the contents of a Sony
Memory Stick a couple of years ago, so that is always in the back of my
mind.

All my current cameras are Canon DSLRs and they all use CF memory card.
And as I have mentioned in earlier message that I have been using digital
camera for little over a decade and only lost around 4-5 photos.

And the 16GB CF now is much cheaper than what I paid for the 4MB card
years ago (eother 1/2 or 1/3 the price).

I agree, it is tempting, but imagine if you were on a paid job and you lost
the lot due to something as simple as dropping it onto a concrete floor or
even mislaying the card (which I have done, I am ashamed to say). I may be a
little paranoid but paying £900 for data recovery concentrates the mind.
