We a planning a trip to Alaska next year. Probably one week land tour of

you have any suggestions on timing?
My wife is a total non-photographer and has difficulty walking.
I'd be hard pressed to make any suggestions at all. I
live almost as far as one can get from here the cruise
ships operate, and something like 600 miles north of
Denali (which I haven't visited in well over a decade).
I will, however, give you what is pretty much my
standard comment on visiting Alaska. To me it makes
very little sense to spend that kind of money on a once
in a lifetime excursion, and then look at the parts of
Alaska that are closest to exactly what you have at
home!
Alaska does have some extremely unusual things to offer,
but you can't find any of them driving on a paved
highway! A short flight from Anchorage can take you to
places unlike anything anywhere else in the US. The
culture is different and the land is different.
There are several possibilities, with some significant
differences between then. Bethel, Kotzebue, and Barrow
(with Nome, Dillingham, and Cordova being somewhat less
desireable possibilities) are the obvious choices with
hotels and tours available. There are even more
interesting places too, if you look hard and find a way
to visit some of the smaller bush villages.
The point is that these locations offer a genuine
difference, something both fabulous and unique, that
makes an Alaska trip well worth the cost. It is an
experience that cannot be duplicated!
BTW were you ever involved in some WordPerfect groups?
Horrors, no! (I'm one of those Unix Weenies, who has
never willingly run an Microsoft OS, or application, in
my whole life! :-)
