OK. I'm used to using a viewfinder anyhow. The one advantage of the
display is that it seems a lot easier to see how the picture came out,
but I haven't actually tried to do that yet, and haven't read that
part of the manual, so maybe the viewfinder will work as well.

I tend o only use the LCD for reviewing my shots, in the same way you would
do with a DSLR.

So I gather this is not a Single Lens Reflex? I was wondering about
that, a) since I haven't seen anywhere else the viewfinder would look
out to the world, and b) since the viewfinder goes blank for a moment
during the picture taking, like my SLR did before it broke. So I
thought it might be an SLR.

I use it sometimes if I'm doing tripod work, simply because the tilt handle
on my tripod makes it awkward to get my fat face right up to the viewfinder.
I really must replace my tilt&pan head with a ball&socket one.

I presume leaving the off-timer on 2 minutes will save a lot of
battery compared to the other choice, 5 minutes. (It does seem like
every time I go to take another picture, it's been about 3 minutes. :)

I keep mine on 2 minutes, and it doesn't seem to be a problem. The great
thing about teh Fuji's is they have a very fast startup time.

It is fast, I agree. I didn't know it was faster than others. That's
reassuring.

It does beep a bit when it turns off, and in due time, i'll learn to
start it up as I'm lifting the camera. Of course right now, I'm as
likely to turn it off as to turn it on.

BTW, when I take a picture, it makes a little noise. I've thought
that that was to simulate the shutter noise, and as soon as I hear it
I can lower the camera. A) someone told me I have to wait longer. B)
Sometimes, after I've started to lower the camera (after I hear the
??similulated shutter noise??, I see the flash go off. That can't be
good. Do I have to wait longer?
