Re: Canon EOS 500N - should I repair or sell?

I recently took my old camera in to get a quote on how much it would
cost to get the auto-focus motors in both the barrels that I have.

The place that I went to quoted me at least $200 (Australian Dollars)
to get it fixed - with it that probably being "the cheapest you will
get - it only gets more expensive from there".

My dilemma is that I really want to keep this camera but can't afford
to spend too much on it right now - if not for sentimental value than
for the fact that photography has been a hobby for many years and this
is the first camera I was given by my mother.

I need to know if they are right in telling me that I am better off
buying new barrels to replace the broken ones rather than getting them
repaired and risking it costing me alot more!

Could someone out there please let me know; a) what all this stuff is
worth (say if all the pieces were working) and b) what I should expect
to pay for repairs like this.

This is my kit:

Canon EOS 500N
Lenses:
Sigma 100 - 300mm
Sigma 28 - 80mm
Titanium SUPER WIDE MACRO LENS 0.42X AF (S7/52mm)

Flash:
Canon Speedlite 380EX (this isn't working either! How much do flashes
like this cost to repair?)

Filters and rings to fit lenses to camera:
Marumi 55mm UV
Cokin 55mm UV
Bauer 55 - 52mm

Lowepro 'Lumina 2' (carry bag)

Any advice would be most appreciated!

I don't think you'll get more than $50 (if that) taking into account that most of your gear isn't working. I'd have a look at Ebay - just a week ago I've bought little used Canon EOS Rebel 2000 Camera with Sigma 28-200mm for $100. I've bought it just for lens, will sell the body. I think it's cheaper to look at second hand stuff rather than try to repair, you can buy film cameras with lenses very cheap sometimes as most buyers look at lenses or digital cameras, relatively few ones bother to search through film cameras.
