You haven't met me. :-) I buy good quality taps for individual
applications rather than getting a full set (which would either be
prohibitively expensive or of lower quality) and I generally have no use
for dies.
The other day, I bought a box about the size of a cigar box at a yard sale.
It was full of dies. Although it had a lot of duplicates, it had a lot of
standard sizes from 3/4 on down. All had American brands on them, and look
like they would be decades old. It was ten bucks, and I got two of the
chucks. Don't know the name of the chuck for a tap. No dies.
