Can anyone recommend a worthwhile portable studio lighting kit for a
cheapskate amateur, wana-be professional. I have a Nikon D50 if that
matters. It is my hope to find something under $500, but I expect
that to be difficult.
Google Alien Bees, though not sure you'll get very much for $500.
Does the D50 have a sync cable connection? If not, you'll have to use the built in flash or accessory flash to trip the studio lights.
As a minimum a couple 400 W-s lights and a couple cheap A-C strobes should get you started. Most important is a wide control range. You need 4 - 5 stops of light control or you will forever be moving lights around.
