Nobody has yet explained to me what Vista does that makes it at all worth
getting.
Well, to start with it doesn't work with all of your old hardware so it
gives you the reason to go get that new video card you have had your eye
on. On the down side, it has tighter security, is more stable and has a
cool new GUI called aero, of course you will need that new video card to
use it.
Honestly, I like it. I installed it about two weeks ago: the business
edition, You can get it here for about half price,
http://www.trustprice.com/Microsoft_OEM_Microsoft_Windows/66J-02289/partinfo-id-604267.html
But remember, It is OEM so you have to install it on a new computer and
sell it somebody.
I went with Business Ed for the remote desktop feature which works back
and forth with XP Pro. Trustprice has OEM DSP's of all versions.
Install is not for the faint of heart, Be ready to research problems and
us Microsoft's help resources. In other words, It does require some
techy troubleshooting skills if you hit a bump in the road. VISTA NG's
where some help.
"Cool new GUI's" won't do it.
Tighter security? From Microsoft? <sigh>
(My machine is Vista ready ... I'm not)
Thanks for your reply... now I can continue quietly in WinXP.
I tried to DL purchase CS3 yesterday. For some reason the North American
/ Adobe site wants to charge me Ireland VAT for part of the price, which
is another $32 over the Elements 3.0 upgrade price. (Reason: the DL site
is in Ireland).
I called them, the operator had no idea but did say there were some
"website issues".
I wrote them, waiting on reply.
In the meantime I DL'd it as a 30 day demo. I like it... it seems less
bloaty than Elements 3.0 and yet it is much more capable. Memory
management is pretty flaky. I have 2 GB on my machine and with a single
480 MB scan in work, it rapidly ran up the memory to over 2 GB and then
the disk thrashing set in. To boot, it does not seem to release memory
well (but may be me leaving the cache too high).
Cheers,
Alan.

I don't recomend upgrading for the sake of upgrading. I had no choice but
to start over so I started over W/Vista. It does seem cleaner. I can crash
XP at will if I want to, I haven't crashed Vista yet.
Anyway, with all OS's there comes a day when you just have to do it.
