Hi
I'm a digital beginner, still very attached to 35mm, but keen to be able to
use a PC to play with and mail snapshots.
Took a roll of 35mm print film to Jessops to develop, and asked for a CD of
the images as well. (£2.99 extra).
Loaded the CD and went to view the images - quelle catastrophe! Absolutely
awful. When I looked at the file sizes, it wasn't so surprising. The pixel
count on the images was 400 x 597, file sizes 40 to 70 kb!
When I protested, was told this was standard resolution, extra costs more.
But even 2mpixel res would give an image count @1600 x 1200. My 2.2 mpixel
Fuji Finepix (just a toy) gives images leagues ahead of those Jessops put on
that CD (taken on an Olympus Trip)
Have I been taken to the cleaners, or is this what I can expect? Makes a
nonsense of using 35mm for quality if that's the case. I was hoping to
continue using my Minolta XD kit for a while longer.
Interested to hear from more experienced Digital users.

I bought my own scanner and the good news is I can get fairly good
scans, the bad news is that it takes a lot of time to do the
scanning. And DSLRs have now gotten so cheap that you can get a
decent one for the cost of a good scanner.
The scanner is very nice for getting photos that I have already taken
into a digital format. For new photos I take nothing but digital.
