Thanks, if I find a larger mount I might just have to do the modification
myself. Electrical tape or that double sided tape might do well as both a
cushion and shim.

I don't know of any company that makes third part collars. I would first,a
find the outside diameter of the spot on the lens you want to mount the
collar, Then search for specs on existing lenses, Canon, Nikon, Sigma etc.
for a lens with close dimension.
You might luck out and find one that works; if not, maybe on that is just
tad larger, 1/16th or so. You could shim the difference with someadhesive
weather stripping or foam tape or some other solution that will fill thegap
in an elegant manner.photography
Or, you could always use duct tape :-)

Hi everybody, perhaps someone can help me with this. I have a Nikon
80-200mm
Zoom with a 2.8 aperture. My lens is about 12 or 13 years old, but still
takes pristine pics. Nikon still makes this same lens with the
modification
of a tripod holder on the lens itself. I am doing some sports
wobbleand need the speed of this lens to freeze baseballs and my sons pitching
arm
in motion. The problem is that this lens is very heavy and can not be
tripod
mounted without the center of gravity being the mount point or the
collarmakes it useless. Nikon has no info because they want me to buy the new
lens. So my question is, can I buy some sort of aftermarket tripod
mountfor this lens. It would be suitable for me to even mount the tripod
on
the zoom collar of the lens even if this made the lens a fixed 200mm
really
a 300mm with my digital SLR. If anybody knows, thanks.
