Well there's an obvious pun about using the force to help you make the decision :)
Film and digital are just different, though depending on how you work and what images you take perhaps not as different as some people make out. I've gone from being a heavy darkroom worker (multiple printing, masking, etc) to scanning film and working digitally to now a complete digital solution. To me, it is all the same in result.
Digital has some huge advantages to film. Zero cost after buying the camera and instant feedback means that it has the potential to make experimenting and growing as a photographer quicker and easier. I teach photography and I find digital just so much better as a learning vehicle because rapid feedback of results is such a core part of a good learning experience. Many longtime film photogs I know have gone through a renaissance in their photography since going digital.
I use a 350D at present (thinking of going to the 400D and having the 350D converted for IR) and despite a few issues I love the camera. Like all cameras it depends on the glass you have on the front.
