If you have a camera and are making photographs, then you have already "taken up photography".
Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on your POV, the above paragraph applies to thousands of people within 25 miles of any medium to large city.
Could be a great weight loss program as after expenses you won't have much to pay for food.
On that note, you would be just as well to take business courses and then see how you can build a photography business and make money. Marketing and service is essential, and more important than the photography alone.
