I have a qustion which may or may not be stupid. I have a Kodak digital camera + adapters & lenses. They are all 37mm threads for the lenses. I have an opportunity to buy some macro lenses, but with 55mm threads.
My stupid question is, if I attach a macro lens to the front of my 2.5x telephoto lens, which has a 55mm thread, what effect will I get? Will it all just blur out, or will I be able to take macro close-ups from a bit further away?
Thanks for any help/advice offered.....
Depends.
If the "macro lens" is really a glorified magnifying glass with a filter-mount thread intended to be screwed into the front of another lens, then it might be worth trying; that arrangement would allow you to focus closer than normal - like using a magnifying glass or reading specs to read small print.
This is what my current one is like, very thin & uses an adaptor to mount to the camera itself. The one's I wish to buy are the same but larger threads, hence the possibilty of mounting them to my telephoto to give me the flexibilty to stand back from the subject a touch!
If the "macro lens" is a complete camera lens in itself, but designed to include a 'macro range' in the focussing mechanism, then it is meant to be fitted directly to a camera body and be used on its own. You would need to use a lens-mount adaptor to fit such a lens in place of the normal one - if that is possible at all.
