That's because the printer isn't your finisher anymore. *You* have to
finish the photo for yourself - the term is USM. Gotta do some unsharp
mask to make it "pleasing" and less "realistic".

Photographers, who know what they're doing and put in the time, have
unprecedented control over their images with digital. Of course, most
people won't bother - those who do can reap the benefits.
