First, don't listen to facetious unhelpful posters.
Yes the sensor probably is kaput.
Don't buy another, Fuji has been fixing all S2's, whether on warranty
or not, as a sort of unannounced recall. They realize there are a
couple of series of S2's with unreliable sensors. Contact your local
Fuji tech rep and start complaining. For more info go to the dpreview
