Maybe the reason noone has replied is that noone feels qualified, or
your questions were a bit too general.. but here you go:
>I need a AC-LS5K power supply and some AA NiMh batteries.
If thecamera uses standard AA's, then any barnd of batteries/charger
will work..
>The prices for these items are all over the board. Is there any
>difference in power supply manufacturers?
Yes. A lot of difference. First, the charger must be designed for the
type of batteries. Second, better chargers use various methods to
ensure they don't overcharge, include temperature and voltage sensors.
I have no idea who makes the best, but a search of the group (or
rec.photo.digital) would turn up clues...
>What about batteries? I went to HiMh (NiMh??) on my walkie talkies
>and scanner, and they are waaaaaaaay better than NiCd or alkaline.
Yes, they are, but this is pretty basic stuff that you could look up
anywhere.
>But, the prices range from a couple of bucks a battery to around
>8 bucks per battery.
The cheaper ones probably are less well made, or have lower power
ratings.
>I am going to need a total of ten, two for the camera, and
>eight for a GPS. They seem to come in four packs.
Just about every manufacturer I've seen also makes two packs.
>So, three packs times $$$ can run into a big difference
>between brands.
Yes, but that cost is spread over the life of the batteries, which
should be at least a year, probably much more if you look after them.
>Also, any comments about the Sony DSC H1 will be read.
Try dpreview.com, imaging-resource.com, steves digicams, etc..
>Anyone have one of these chargers they want to part with?
Not me.
